Outdoor Living
Make the Most of the Views. Make the Most of Your Home.
There’s something pretty special about living in Park City and the surrounding areas. The mountain air, the views, the peaceful backdrops—it’s no wonder so many of us want to bring a little more of the outside in.
At Crossbeam Builders, we help homeowners turn their outdoor spaces into valid extensions of their homes. We’re talking decks that feel like living rooms, patios that flow right from your kitchen, and outdoor nooks that make you want to stay out just a little longer—even when the evening chill sets in.
In this post, we’ll walk through what a great outdoor living space looks like, some real-life projects we’ve completed, and how we help design outdoor areas that work for your lifestyle, not just the weather.
Not Just a Backyard—A Real Living Space
Let’s be honest: many outdoor areas start out underwhelming. Maybe it’s a deck that’s too small to use, a patio that feels like an afterthought, or a yard with no clear purpose. We’ve seen it all.
The good news? With thoughtful design and solid planning, we can turn that unused space into your new favorite hangout.
At Crossbeam Builders, we create outdoor living areas that feel connected to your home—places that invite you to slow down, gather with friends, or take in the view with a cup of coffee. That might mean:
- A new deck or patio that expands your usable space
- A pergola or gazebo to add shade and charm
- A custom outdoor kitchen or grilling station
- Fireplaces or fire pits for year-round use
Stylish railings and fencing that frame the space without blocking the view
Real Projects, Real Transformations
We’ve worked on outdoor spaces all across Park City, from mountain-view decks to hidden garden escapes. Here are a few highlights:
These photos show a project where the original house had a small, unusable deck that was poorly designed. We partnered with a local architect to design the deck shown, which accommodates a gas fireplace and provides almost twice the space of the original deck. This has become the most popular “room” in the house, even in the colder spring and fall months in the mountains of Park City.
Park City Deck with Fireplace
This home started with a small, awkward deck in Park City that was barely used. We teamed up with a local architect and created a new space that more than doubled the size, added a built-in gas fireplace, and quickly became the most-used “room” in the house, even in the chilly spring and fall months.
Built for Gathering, Relaxing, and Everyday Living
This new deck is all about creating a space that feels connected to the outdoors while still being comfortable and built to last. The stamped concrete floor gives the look of natural stone without the maintenance, and the wood ceiling adds warmth and character overhead. We used stone-wrapped columns to give the structure some visual weight and tie it in with the natural surroundings. It’s the kind of space that’s perfect for relaxing with a cup of coffee or hosting a casual get-together—easy to enjoy and built to hold up through every season.
Deck with a View in Millcreek
This classic split-level home needed better indoor-outdoor flow. We removed some exterior brick, installed a large sliding glass door, and built a deck that opened right off the living room. Now the homeowners enjoy amazing valley views and the Oquirrh Mountains in the distance, framed by sleek cable railings.
Modern Deck Addition With Mountain and Valley Views
We added this deck to a classic split-level home located in the Millcreek area. We had to remove some of the exterior brick and create a structural opening to install the large sliding glass door. The results were fantastic as the deck allows you to walk out of the living room and enjoy the valley views with the Oquirrh Mountains in the distance. The cable railings offer a clean, contemporary look that complements the views without distraction.
Tiger Wood Deck in Emigration Canyon
Originally built with composite material, this deck needed a refresh in Sandy City. We replaced it with rich, warm Tiger Wood—an exotic hardwood that brought a whole new vibe to the garden and hot tub area. We carefully blended the deck into the surrounding stonework and sealed the wood to preserve its beauty.
The Crossbeam Difference
Outdoor projects can get tricky fast, especially when you’re building on hillsides, over garages, or around older homes. That’s where experience matters.
At Crossbeam Builders, we don’t just “build decks.” We consider the flow, views, materials, and how you intend to use the space. We handle permits, coordinate trades, and maintain clear communication, so you always know what’s going on.
We also believe in blending style with structure, so what we build not only looks good but also lasts.
