Basement Remodeling

From Forgotten Corners to Favorite Spaces

Basements often get the short end of the stick. They’re dark, unfinished, and end up being the place where random boxes go to collect dust. However, with the right design and a bit of creativity, your basement can become one of the most inviting and versatile areas in your home.

At Crossbeam Builders, we specialize in turning unused square footage into spaces you want to spend time in—whether that’s a family hangout zone, guest suite, home gym, or just a cozy retreat to escape the noise upstairs.

This page walks you through what a basement remodel can do, some of the intelligent design choices we’ve made on past projects, and how we help homeowners across Park City reimagine what’s possible underground.

Basement Potential—It’s More Than Just Extra Room

Your basement doesn’t have to feel like a basement.
When designed well, it can feel just as welcoming and polished as the rest of your home. Whether you’re working with a wide open layout or a tighter footprint, we help you create a plan that makes the most of the space—without cutting corners or skipping the fun stuff.
Here’s what we often include in a basement remodel:

  • Entertainment areas with built-ins or home theater setups
  • Guest bedrooms or in-law suites
  • Wet bars or kitchenettes
  • Playrooms, game rooms, or hobby spaces
  • Home offices, gyms, or workout studios
  • Updated bathrooms with thoughtful layout and lighting
  • Durable, low-maintenance flooring options
  • Smart lighting and ceiling design to fight that “underground” feel

From Cold to Cozy

In one Park City basement remodel, we transformed an outdated space into a warm, modern hangout. The existing fireplace was updated with a clean, efficient gas insert. Concrete floors were stained and sealed for a sleek, low-maintenance look. Faux wood beams and new lighting helped define the space, bringing in contrast and character. It’s now one of the most used rooms in the home, especially in the colder months.

Opening Up the Layout

Another project required some smart engineering to open things up. We removed a dividing wall and installed a beam to carry the load—but the beam still needed a central column. Instead of making it look like an afterthought, we wrapped the column in rich cherry wood trim and added a custom stainless railing to create a visual flow. The final result feels bright, open, and modern, with luxury vinyl planks that withstand daily life beautifully.

Basement Bathroom Done Right

Let’s talk about one of the most significant pain points in basement spaces: the bathroom. In one remodel, we transformed a basic 5’x8’ basement bathroom, once dingy and barely usable, into a bright, clean, modern space. Another project featured a classic tub, toilet, and vanity layout. Still, the magic was in the materials: creative tile work, a lighter color palette, and improved lighting completely transformed the space's feel.

One Park City remodel we completed featured a floating vanity in rich wood tones with a white quartz countertop that stood out. The homeowners wanted a fresh look without going ultra-modern, and this mix of shaker-style cabinets and soft lighting hit that perfect balance.

Why Crossbeam Builders?

At Crossbeam Builders, we know basement remodeling isn’t always straightforward. There can be surprises behind the walls, structural quirks, and tricky layouts. That’s why we don’t just show up with a hammer—we come in with a plan.

We listen, ask the right questions, and find creative ways to make your space work. From building permits and moisture protection to finish selection and clean-up, we take care of the details so you can stay focused on the end result: a basement that doesn’t just feel like an upgrade—it becomes one.

Smart Basement Upgrades with Style and Function

At Crossbeam Builders, we want your basement remodel to be an efficient and functional use of space that is often overlooked or an afterthought for the original structure. Turning dead space into living space can sometimes require structural ingenuity and clever design elements to bring the space to life.
The original wall in the next project was removed and replaced with a beam that still required a column. To dress up the column, it was covered with a cherry wood finish trim. The custom stainless railing was designed to accent and integrate seamlessly into the space, creating a more open feel in the room. The luxury vinyl planking on the floor offers an economical and durable flooring option.

We have had Chris & his team help us with a variety of projects around our home. Everything from rebuilding our basement after having a pipe break in our wall to adding outdoor electrical outlets. Chris and his sub contractors have been on time, cost effective, and respectful of our time & space. I would highly recommend Crossbeam Builders for any size of home projects.

Chris and Crossbeam Builders are fantastic. Chirs promptly returned my phone call, did a site visit, and figured out a solution where others couldn't (or wouldn't.) Chris did everything by the book, involved and engineer and other experts when necessary, and got the job done. Even though it wasn't exactly a sexy project, his willingness to do the job and do it well made a difference in our lives and where we live. He's a total pro. I especially appreciate his honesty, communication, and attention to detail during the whole project. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to any of our friends and will call him for any of our upcoming projects.
