Sugarhouse

One of Salt Lake City’s oldest neighborhoods, Sugarhouse (officially the two-word “Sugar House”) takes its name from a sugar beet test factory that opened in 1853 inside a former blacksmith shop. Many homes in the area are over a century old, surrounded by tree-lined streets, locally owned shops, and a strong sense of history. With unique roots and distinct character, Sugar House blends history, diversity, and charm like nowhere else in the valley.

Crafting Sugarhouse with Care

Crossbeam Builders takes great pride in working with homes in Sugarhouse, where every project reflects the neighborhood’s timeless architecture. Whether updating a historic bungalow or restoring original details, we approach each home with respect for its history and craftsmanship.

Historic Whole-Home Renovation

This Sugar House renovation project involved restoring a home that predates residential electricity. Our goal was to bring the structure back to its original character while carefully updating it for modern comfort. Features such as cedar shake, copper flashing, and detailed moldings were meticulously restored, while modern insulation and windows provided much-needed efficiency. Inside, walnut countertops, a copper farmhouse sink, and old-style push-button switches give the space a cohesive, era-appropriate feel.

Open Layout Kitchen Remodel

In homes with limited space, rethinking the layout can make a dramatic difference. This kitchen remodel transformed a narrow galley into a warm, open gathering space. Removing a dividing wall made way for better light and functionality without losing the home's original character.

Basement Bathroom with Classic Craftsmanship

Older homes often come with design constraints, especially in basement bathrooms. In this Sugar House bathroom remodel, we reimagined the traditional layout using custom tilework, a granite countertop, and a handcrafted vanity. The result is a polished and comfortable space that fits beautifully into the existing footprint.
